Butler Community Arts School

Butler Community Arts School

We’re advancing arts education in Indianapolis through transformative programs: private music lessons, group arts classes, and summer arts camps. Here, every individual has the opportunity to tap into an art form—new or familiar—for the sake of joy and enrichment.

Private Music Lessons

Curious to try a new instrument, start singing, or dust off your old violin? Butler offers private, one-on-one music instruction to community members, and we are excited to welcome you to the program. Bring 20 years of experience or none—we’ve got you covered with flexible scheduling, friendly instructors, and personalized learning for every age and level of experience.

Group Classes

Connect with other artists in our group arts classes. Whether it’s you or your child, our options are designed to meet each artist where they are. From group ensembles for adults to keyboard skills for little ones, the opportunity to build meaningful connections through the arts is at your fingertips—for both beginners and veterans.

Summer Arts Camps

An artful summer awaits your little one, your teen, or yourself. With nearly 20 summer arts camps in a variety of disciplines, we are building an environment where artists of all ages garner a strong sense of belonging and connection through Butler Arts. You name it—music, theatre, dance—we have it all.

Butler Ballet Summer Intensive

Looking to stay in dancing shape over the summer while exploring a new college campus and program? Butler’s Ballet Summer Intensive is for dancers curious about the Butler experience and who are building toward their future. For one month, dancers from around the globe come together to take classes six days a week, work with insightful instructors from our world-renowned dance faculty to deepen their artistry, and build rich connections with fellow artists.

We Believe

We believe the arts should be accessible to everyone, not a privilege for a few—and that quality music lessons, dance classes, and arts education should be available to all in Indianapolis and beyond.

We believe in providing high-quality instruction in music, dance, theatre, and visual art to kids, teens, and adults in Indianapolis and the surrounding area through private music lessons, group classes, and summer camps.

We believe in providing vital opportunities for Butler University students majoring in the arts to teach and interact with the Indianapolis community, better preparing them for careers as artists and teachers.

Teaching Artists

With the support and care of our Teaching Artists (TA), each program flourishes and builds toward a brighter arts community at Butler. Our TAs have broad backgrounds—many are current Butler Jordan College of the Arts students and alumni, while others are community professionals. They bring real-world experience as both artists and educators, and they're eager to build lasting connections with their students.
